We’ll Move You Anywhere on Maui

One of Maui’s most breathtaking features is its diverse landscapes. You’ll find beaches, rainforests, farms, ranches, and rugged swaths of land on the Valley Isle. You’ll also find a few narrow roads, steep driveways, and significant inclines, which can make moving a challenge.

Our Maui-based colleagues at Royal Hawaiian Movers know how to navigate the entire island with ease. From central locations like Kahului or Wailuku to south shore spots like Kihei and Wailea to upcountry towns like Makawao, Pukalani, and Kula to North Shore areas like Paia and Haiku, and all the way to Hana in East Maui, we’ll create a safe and simple Maui move for you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving to Maui, Hawaii

We suggest starting your move preparation 6-8 weeks ahead of time—or more, if you’re able to plan that far ahead. Our moving checklist will help you take care of all your to-dos in a timely fashion, paving the way for a stress-free Maui relocation.

A couple areas we want to highlight:

  • Schedule your move as soon as you can, especially if you want to relocate during the busy summer months when kids are out of school. The earlier you schedule your move, the more likely you are to get your preferred dates.
  • When you’re 2-3 weeks out from your move, make time to collect and pack the valuables you’ll take with you, including items like original birth certificates, passports, and other important papers.

If you’re moving to Maui without a job, we suggest saving up enough to cover three to six months of expenses, including:

  • Housing costs – Studios and one-bedroom rentals on Maui can cost anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 or more per month, depending on where you decide to live. Craigslist will give you a good sense of the going rate for Maui housing. If you’re renting, most landlords require first month’s rent and a security deposit to secure a spot.
  • Grocery costs – Food prices may be significantly higher than what you’re used to, depending on where you’re living now. Check out the prices at Safeway in Kahului to get a sense of what food costs on Maui. (There’s also a Costco in Kahului, which can help you save by buying in bulk.)
  • Transportation costs – Are you planning on shipping your car? Or will you try to buy a car on Maui? Craigslist can give you a sense of how much used cars cost on Maui, but make sure to vet any purchases carefully.

If you’ve already secured a job on Maui, make sure you have enough money to cover temporary housing until you find a permanent place to live. It also pays to have an emergency fund to cover a few months of expenses, just in case of the unexpected.

Before you move to Maui, it’s a good idea to have a good sense of the pros and cons of living on the island.

As Maui residents will tell you, there are plenty of amazing aspects to living on Maui—including that incredible year-round Hawaii weather and Maui’s gorgeous beaches. If you love being in the water, Maui is a watersports paradise, with opportunities for surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, stand-up paddling, canoeing, foiling, windsurfing—just about anything you could imagine.

There are also a few downsides to living on Maui. The cost of living can be considerable. If you’re moving to Maui without a job, most of the available jobs are in the tourism industry. These jobs offer a wide range of pay, which may or may not feel like enough to sustain your life on Maui. It will all depend on the type of job you secure, as well as your monthly expenses.
